If only all Filipinos will be like the taxi drivers of baguio. I have met some of the most honest and hardworking people in baguio. A taxi driver that is willing to take you anywhere, near or far, without any hesitations. A taxi where you can feel safe even in the wee hours in the morning. A taxi driver that will give you the exact change even to the last cent. And on my last visit, i was able to encounter taxi drivers that doesn't have 0.50 will give you 1.00 peso instead. And when you give them even just 5 pesos extra, they will even have a smiling face as they say 'thank you'.
In manila, i have never seen such a taxi driver. It's either they will ask for an extra 20-30 pesos from the meter rate or give you a fixed rate of 200-300 pesos depending on your location. Or, better yet, if you will hire a taxi in manila and you are very near, they will not accommodate you.
One more thing i love about Baguio, are their 'tinderas'. Even if you spend half an hour looking at their store, touching everything and asking prices, and you don't buy, they don't mind, they will just say 'balik ka dito ate ha' or even a thank you because you bothered to enter their store and take a look at their products. In manila, you cannot do that, people will give you a fierce stare if you will just look and touch the products and not buy anything, you will even hear side comments at your back when you leave.
Being in Baguio doesn't only give me the relaxing atmosphere, but it gave me a sense of happiness and hope, that there are still people, even strangers, with a good heart. If all of us will be like them, our world will be a better place.
